About me
I’m a video journalist based in Washington DC, with a keen interest in gender, politics and social justice reporting. I was raised in Chandigarh, India and moved to the US in 2022 to purse my master’s degree at Columbia Journalism School, where I graduated with honours. My biggest project here was co-directing ‘The Recital,’ a 40-minute documentary which follows three young musicians as they overcome their struggles to master classical violin.
At present, I’m a Video Fellow with BBC North America. I produce/edit news video and explainers on daily and breaking news. My newfound interest in US politics has helped me come up with unique ideas to cover the ongoing election year.
Before moving to the US, I worked as video producer at The Swaddle, a Mumbai-based publication with a strong focus on health, science and gender in India. Here, I edited and co-produced 'In Perspective,' an interview series about lesser known cultural narratives from South Asia. This series went on to bag a Webby Award nomination and won a Laadli Award, which is India’s highest honour for gender-sensitive journalism.
Prior to these roles, influenced by my grandparents’ experiences during the India-Pakistan partition, I enrolled in a Story Scholar fellowship with the 1947 Partition Archive. Here, I collected the oral histories of more than sixty partition survivors. In the past, I’ve represented India at global public speaking events and was chosen to be an Endeavour Fellow at the New York Times Athens Democracy Forum in Athens, Greece. At 18, I directed and edited the 25-minute documentary 'Vasant Talkies', on one of the last surviving single-screen cinemas in Pune, India.
